Task 4

3) Rewrite the story of Little Red Riding Hood from the POV of the wolf.

Okay, so I got killed in the end and I am sure you all were happy that I died. I was not as clever as I had thought I was. Right now I cannot rest in peace if the record is not set straight. The official accounts of what happened that day are all lies, and I hate lies, especially lies about me. So here's what actually happened.

The first lie that really irritates me is all this business about me being a big bad wolf. I admit that I may have been average size once, but by the time I was killed, I was more ribs than flesh. I had not had a decent meal in weeks. The history books say I wanted to eat Little Red Riding Hood. I did not want to eat her and I can prove it. Even if I wanted to eat her, what is so terrible about it? This is what we wolves usually eat. What about Little Red Riding Hood, nobody complained when she had beef steak for breakfast and when she took eggs from the chicken.

Anyway, as I had said earlier, I did not want to eat her. Here's the prove. You remember when she and I had a little chat in the woods? I asked her where she was going, what she had in the basket, and where her sick granny lived. Well, if I was close enough to talk to her, you will have to agree that I was close enough to eat her. Why did I not try to eat her?

The fact was, I was after Little Red Riding Hood's basket containing the goodies. With my teeth I could not even bite a chicken let alone a girl. It was the basket that I wanted. I thought of stealing the basket from her there and then but it would upset her.

My plan was easy and simple. I intended to pop along to Granny's cottage, to give granny a little scare, so she will run away. I will pretend I was granny, and relieve Red Riding Hood of the basket. Then she would go home happily thinking she had done her good deed and I would have the basket. We will all live happily ever after.

Only things did not turn out the way I had expected. I found out that granny was not there. I had pushed open the door, all set to scare old granny and get out of the way as she rushed out, only there was nobody to scare. I crawled into the bed, pulling the covers over me. In a few minutes, Little Red Riding Hood came along.

When she knocked the door, I stayed under and called out: "Who is it?".

"It's me, Grandma!", said Red Riding Hood.

"Well who's me?", I asked.

"Little Red Riding Hood!", she said. "I have brought you a basket full of lovely food".

"Come in my dear, come in", I said.

And in she came. Naturally, I stayed under the covers.

"How are you Grandma?", she asked.

"I am not well at all, dear," I said. "I caught a very contagious disease, I will stay under the covers until you have gone. Just leave the basket here and run along dear."

"Yes, Grandma," said Little Red Riding Hood.

Just as she turned to leave, who should walk into the room but Grandma herself !

"Hello, Red Riding Hood", said Granny.

"Hello, Grandma", said Red Riding Hood.

"Grandma",said Little Red Riding Hood, "if you are here, who could that be in your bed?"

At that instant, I regretted my previous actions.

"Whoever you are, show yourself."said Granny.

I poked my nose out from under the covers.

"Look," I said, "it's all been a terrible mistake......"

BANG, BANG, BANG!

Oh, the injustice. All I wanted was something to eat . Granny had managed to shot me three times. I screamed out in agony, hoping that they would help me somehow but the last thing those two had in mind was to help me. Granny and Little Red Riding Hood talked about how famous they would be for killing a wolf. I lay there, half in and half out of the world, they calmly discussed the tale they would tell the reporters. At last I took my last breath as I leave this unfair and cruel world.

Task 3

Confessions of an ex- dancer

I always wanted to be a dancer since I was eight years old. Everyday I waited anxiously for my favourite dance competition show to start. I felt as though I was waiting for a million years for the show to start. I was inspired by the way the contestants in the show dance. They dance ever so gracefully like a swan. It would be a dream come true if I were given the chance to take up dance classes. Little did I know that I would be given the chance to pursue my long waited dream.

My parents noticed how serious I was in being a dancer. They thought why not give me a chance in taking dance classes.Every dance practice that I had gone through brought me closer to my dream of becoming a dancer. At first when I had just started dancing, I felt very awkward and stiff as it was my first time trying out dancing. However, as weeks passed, I was able to dance waltz, quick step, ballet, hip-hop which was my favourite and so on. I was slowly progressing from a beginner to an intermediate dancer.

Soon, I was asked by my dance instructor to participate in a dance competition. I agreed to do so as I wanted to experience how it was like participating in a competition. The days to the dance competition was hectic and tiring. I was not able to take more than a ten minutes break. My legs ached from the impact of my vigorous dance moves. Eventhough my bones felt like breaking, I still persevered on and paid no attention to my aching bones. As the days draw closer to the dance competition, I continued practicing.

I was just a day away from the dance competition. On the big day, I woke up discovering a painful seething ached in my right upper thigh. It became so unbearable that I had such difficulty walking only a short distance. I was so worried that I would not be able to participate in the dance competition in my current condition. My mum sent me to the hospital. The doctors took many bone scans to try to identify the cause of my ached. The dance competition was due in one hour's time I was not going to make it.

The doctors found out had found out the cause. I predicted that it was not going to be good by the facial expression on the doctor's face. I noticed that beads of perspiration started running down his face. The doctor cleared his throat. Shock engulfed me when I found out that I was diagnosed with bone cancer. Suddenly tears started pouring down my rosy cheeks. My dreams of becoming a dancer were shattered. I was to undergo chemotherapy every week. The pain was agonising.

There was no hopes of me being able to dance again . Day by day I am fighting my life threatening disease. I was lucky if I was able to wake up the next day knowing I was still alive. Till now, I still longed for the day I am able to dance again.

Task 2

(a)The girls were excited as they waited for the results.

The day that the girls had been waiting for had arrived. It seemed to them as though they had waited a million years for this day to come. Their hearts began thumping furiously against their chest. The atmosphere in the room had suddenly became tense as the Principal made his way up the stage. Beads of perspiration started dripping down the girls faces. The girls holding their breath as the Principal slowly took his time reading the results.

(d) The old lady sat alone in her room.

The old lady sat in the corner of the room head hung down in loneliness. Her heart felt like breaking into many small pieces. Tears rolling down her saggy and wrinkled face as she remembered the happy times that she had with her children, who no longer cared about her. Her face looking so forlorn and devastated. She cried out to anyone to safe her sorry state. No matter how loud she screamed, her pleas were not heard by anyone.

Task 1b

Having two working parents: What are the pros and cons of having two working parents?

Nowadays, I realised that in most families both parents are working. I have found out on the website, Wiki Answers that about 75% of families have both parents working. It may be a good thing that both parents are working but at the same time, it may have its disadvantages. Children with working parents lack communication with their parents and are not able to spent time with their parents due to the time constraint. On the other hand, with both parents working, there will be extra income for the family allowing the family to be financially stable. I do not understand why there is a need for both parents to be working especially since it is a man's duty to support not a women's duty.

When both parents are working, there will be extra income for the family. It is good as there will be more money put aside for the child's development. The child will then have a comfortable and stable life not having to worry about money needed for education etc. Since both parents are working, there will be sufficient money for the child's needs. The parents also can afford to send the child for enrichment programs.

When both parents are at work, it would mean that the child is left at home alone. Since the child is being left home alone, the child has to take care of his/her own meals and take care of his/her own welfare. The child will then learn to be more independent from young without the parents being at home. My cousin, Lisa has both of her parents working since she was 7 years old. Now I noticed how independent she has grown into. She has the initiative to do things on her own.

One of the disadvantage of having both parents working is that the child will lack attention at home. Since the child is lonely, the child will start to hang out with his/her friends and give in to peer pressure. The child will then start to smoke, take drugs, drop out of school and so on. The parents may lost control over their child. I have watch many documentaries on children who drop out of school due to lack of attention from their parents. I find that this cases are very common in most families.

Since both parents are working, there is no time for interaction and communication between the child and the parents. The relationship between the child and his/her parents will not be close. Thus, problems will arise. Soon, it will seem as though the parents are total strangers to the child due to the lack of communication. Many working parents nowadays are not very close with their children. In some families, the child is closer to the maid than his/her parents.

In conclusion, there are pros and cons of having both parents working. By having both parents working, the family will be financially stable. However, the child will also lack attention at home. It is always important to ensure that the child has enough attention at home as it affects the child not only at home but also at school.
